Jason Lovvorn
Jason decided to join Baylor’s football program as a 5′11″ walk-on quarterback in fall 2004. The majority of his first two seasons, Jason worked on the scout team for Baylor, simulating the opposing Big XII quarterbacks Baylor was preparing to play. He was named to the Big XII Commissioner’s Honor Roll numerous times during his career at Baylor. His second season, Jason dressed out for all five Baylor home games. Following his second season, Baylor changed offensive systems to a spread passing offense, which helped display his strengths as “a smart quarterback who knows where to go with the ball” as former Baylor head coach Guy Morriss said. In August 2006, he was featured in a front page Waco Tribune Herald article when he became the back-up QB to starter Shawn Bell in early 2006 season, after jumping ahead of Blake Szymanski (a Baylor record setting quarterback) for a period of time. After the 2006 season, Baylor’s QB coach, Wes Phillips’ (Wade Phillips’ son) gave Jason some personal encouraging advice before Wes left to assist his father with the Cowboys. At 5′11″, if Jason wanted to lead a college offense before his playing days were over, Coach Phillips suggested, he should consider a D2 or D3 program, but he was welcome to stay at Baylor; however, he would most likely continue in his back-up role or as a receiver. Jason chose to attend Howard Payne for the 2007 football season. In 2007, Jason finished his last season playing at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. After suffering a shoulder separation in the first game of the year, he played full time in the last 6 games of the season.
During these 6 games he played in, Jason threw for 2,066 yards, averaging over 344 yards per game. He had 15 passing TD’s and 4 rushing TD’s in these final 6 games.
His first week back from injury playing full time against Texas Lutheran University, he threw for 500 yards (5 touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown) in the game and was named American Southwest Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week. His 500 yards in that single game was just 33 short of the single game conference record. Jason also threw for 440 yards in a game against Louisiana College and led Howard Payne’s high-charged offense in an OT thriller 48-47 upset of rival Hardin-Simmons University at their homecoming in Abilene.
In 2008 and 2009, Texas QB hosted camps and private lessons throughout the state of Texas. Hundreds of quarterbacks and receivers attended camps and private lessons. The 2008 and 2009 football seasons were very successful for many of the Texas QB players from 2nd grade all the way through collegiate quarterbacks.
